Hello, Gavin. It's been a pleasure reading through your blog posts. Although I don't necessarily agree with some of your ideas, I find it educating on a personal level to explore the ideology's of people who have contrasting ideals to me. I was the 43 signs of Western decline that you mentioned, and I couldn't help but notice that you mention cultural relativism and it's seemingly negative impact on cohesion and confidence in the civilization's values. The way I'm interpreting what you're saying is, people increasingly treat all cultural values as equally valid, so society loses the confidence to enforce a common set of shared norms and expectations. However, I believe that Cultural relativism doesn’t erase shared standards, it can strengthen them by making them more fair and widely accepted, because people are more likely to commit to common rules when those rules are justified through open, cross-cultural debate. If we begin to impose a standardized set of standards, we run the risk of ostracizing minorities. I would love to hear more about your thoughts on this topic.
